Evergreen Steams: Winter’s Herbal Breathwork
When the forest settles under frost and the air turns sharp, evergreens remain vibrant—rich with aromatic oils that comfort the mind and help us breathe a little easier in winter. Evergreen steams are one of the simplest ways to bring that woodland clarity indoors.
What You’ll Need
- Fresh or dried pine, cedar, or spruce needles
- Heat-safe bowl
- Hot water
- Towel
How to Create an Evergreen Steam
- Add a handful of chopped evergreen needles to your bowl.
- Pour steaming (not boiling) water over the plant material.
- Lean over the bowl and drape a towel around your head to make a warm tent.
- Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let the aromatic oils rise.
Just 5–8 minutes is enough to hydrate dry winter skin, open the chest, and bring the peaceful scent of the woods indoors.
Foraging Reminder: Take only a small handful from windfallen branches or the lower limbs of large, healthy trees. A little goes a long way.
Everwood Reflections
Evergreen steams invite us to slow down and breathe with the rhythm of the season—warming, clearing, and grounding. A quiet ritual that reconnects us to Wisconsin’s winter woods, even from home.
